Dr. Shashank Parekh grew up in Mumbai, widely known as the "film capital of India." He attended undergraduate school at the University of Mumbai and completed medical school and an internship at Topiwala National Medical College in Mumbai. That is where he met his wife, Jayashree, a nuclear medicine physician.
In 1987, the Parekhs relocated from Mumbai to Charlottesville, where Dr. Parekh completed his residency, along with his fellowship in neuroradiology and body imaging, at the University of Virginia (UVA) Health Sciences Center.
During his second year of residency at UVA, he decided to specialize in neuroradiology. "I was fascinated by the many mysteries of the brain and spine, and by the always-evolving diagnostic technologies. The attendings who taught at UVA were so encouraging. Good teachers make a tremendous difference."
In 2020, the Parekhs moved from Charlottesville to Richmond, where Dr. Shashank Parekh joined Dominion Imaging, the imaging center for Dominion Radiology Associates.
When he isn't working, Dr. Parekh spends time producing movies on his computer and enjoying outdoor activities like hiking with friends and family. His favorite spots include Maymont Park and the Humpback Rocks along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
